Getting old

G (1)

Getting old has nothing going for it

It’s a right pain in the hole

The years of late nights and carrying on

Will begin to take their toll

We won’t be forever young

That is just a dream

As the days and weeks flash by

We’ll soon run out of steam

We won’t drink the way that we do now

Or dance all night ’til dawn

Our years of  acting like the fool

They will soon be gone

We’ll start to watch Eastenders

Emmerdale and the news

And then, during the ad breaks

We’ll have a little snooze

We’ll make sure we’re in bed by ten

To get a good nights sleep

We’ll take a sleeping tablet

Else we’ll be counting sheep

We’ll be up at nine to go to mass

After a soft boiled egg and a cup of tea

Your toast cut into soldiers

White soda bread for me

We’ll have to watch our diet

To prevent high blood pressure

Cutting down on salt and sugar

Eat no fat whatsoever

We’ll always wear a nice warm coat

A woolly scarf and hat

I’ll link you walking up the road

As we laugh and have a chat

Then you will put your hand in mine

The way you always do

No matter how old we may be

Even when we’re ninety two

Just because we’re getting on

And getting older everyday

It doesn’t mean we will forget

The way we feel today

But we’re a long way off our nineties still

Sure we’re still in our prime

So let’s head out and party dear

While we still have the time.

This is such a cute expression that when I grow up I want to be an old woman! Hahaha 🙂
