Wedding Day

W is for Wedding  ( not to be confused with the fabulous wedding of Sinead and Dave)  🙂

shotgun wedding

She walked up the aisle at twenty one

Her adult life had barely begun

One mistake she had made

And now the price was being paid

For just one night of indiscretion

She faced a lifetime of oppression

Plans were made without delay

For her special wedding day

Her dress was borrowed

The church was booked

No small detail was overlooked

The neighbours ,they were not to know

It wouldn’t be long ’til she began to show

They wouldn’t listen to her pleas

She even got down on her knees

And begged her parents not to make

An even bigger mistake

One that would last the rest of her life

By becoming some strangers wife

Her mother said ‘you’ve made your bed

Now this wedding will go ahead

For better or worse, ’til the day you die

On this bed you will have to lie

This family will bear no shame

When you take anothers name’

She held her head up and forced a smile

On the long walk down the aisle

Wishing this nightmare would end

How long could she pretend

That this was her dream day

When she just wanted to run away

As she stood beside her groom

With a feeling of impending doom

She said her vows, but all the while

Wanted to run back down the aisle

Turn back the clock change the scene

Become the girl she should have been

She wanted to live her own life

Not one where she was mother and wife

The plans she’d made were just a dream

This nightmare made her want to scream

From this day forward she’d be his wife

Forever, for the rest of her life

But she did as she was told

Became his, to have and to hold

In sickness and health she was tied

Until the day one of them died

Inside she was already dead

On the day that she was wed.
